A June evening with „ Music on the water of Jan Waraczewski”.

NEWS | 16-06-2021
The waltz “Over the beautiful blue Danube”, “The Moonlight” or “Vltava” will take our music lovers into the world of music on the water during a unique concert, which will take place in the golden hall of the Philharmonic on Friday, June 25th at 7:00 pm. Tickets for PLN 5-10 can be purchased via the website filharmonia.szczecin.pl and at the Philharmonic ticket offices.
Once upon a time, music was listened to for the love of music, today it howls everywhere and always, "without asking if we want to listen to it", howls in the loudspeakers, in cars, in restaurants, in elevators, in ears plugged with walkmen, music rewritten, re-arranged, shortened, fragmented, fragments of rock, jazz, opera, a wave in which everything mixes, so that it is not known who the composer is (music has become an anonymous slogan) that it is impossible to distinguish the beginning and the end (music has become the noise without any form): the dirty water of music in which the music dies, writes Milan Kundera in his 2000 novel Niewiedza.

The activity of the Philharmonic in Szczecin, which has been promoting the idea of listening to "good sounds" for years, stands in complete opposition to these words. Especially, at the beginning of the summer holidays, we want to give our music lovers the opportunity to rest from the surrounding noises and invite them to the land of music on the water.

So far, with the beginning of summer, the musicians of the Philharmonic carried the sounds of the most beautiful music during the concerts Music on the Water by Jan Waraczewski to the yacht marina situated by the Dąbie Lake. The previous editions of the concerts attracted real crowds. Every year, over a thousand people gathered at the lake stage, and the unusual scenery made each concert unique.

This year, we would like to invite you to a slightly different concert, which will be a reference to the concerts at the marina and, at the same time, a tribute to their creator, violinist and long-time concertmaster of the Philharmonic – Jan Waraczewski.

During the concert "Music on the Water" in the golden hall of the Philharmonic, we will hear the songs inspired by the forces of nature, without of which sailing, one of Jan Waraczewski's greatest passions (apart from music), cannot be imagined. When thinking about "water" songs, music lovers around the world come to mind such compositions as the waltz Over the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann Strauss or the Swan Lake by Piotr Tchaikovsky. The situation is similar with the Vltava River by Bedrich Smetana

It shows the course of the river from the beginning, where two streams, one cold and the other hot, merge into a stream; it runs through the forests and meadows, through beloved landscapes where you can hear the celebration of weddings and games, through the moonlight and dances of water nymphs, near high cliff castles and lofty ruins; The Vltava spins on the rapids of St. John, it flows in a wide stream to Prague, passes Wyszogród and,at a great distance, connects with the Elbe – said Bedrich Smetana about his symphonic poem Vltava.

A less obvious choice is The Tempest from Ludwig van Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the overture to the operetta Night in Venice by Johann Strauss or Claude Debussy's Clair de lune. The concert program is completed by the third movement of the Second Symphony by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Przemysław Neumann, who has been the director of the Opole Philharmonic since 2015. As a conductor, he led the orchestras of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus, the Philharmonic of Poznań, Białystok, Koszalin, Gorzów, Częstochowa, Lublin, Kraków, Szczecin, Śląska in Katowice, Dolnośląska in Jelenia Góra, Świętokrzyska in Kielce and the Symphonic Opera Bałtycka . The flagship event that made him famous in the world of music was the intensive work on Polish, unjustly forgotten music. Its fruit was the series of concerts called Polish Forgotten Music (presenting mainly works composed during the partitions) and a publishing series of the same title. Another result of this project was the publication of scores with orchestral parts of works by such artists as Karol Kurpiński, Witold Maliszewski, Feliks Nowowiejski and Zygmunt Noskowski.

Program:
• Johann Strauss – On the beautiful blue Danube
• Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 Pastoral, Part 4 The Tempest
• Bedřich Smetana - Vltava symphonic poem
• Sergey Rachmaninoff – Symphony No. 2 op. 27, part 3
• Johann Strauss - Overture to the operetta Night in Venice
• Claude Debussy – Clair de Lune
• Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – excerpts from the ballet Swan Lake

The concert Music on the Water by Jan Waraczewski will take place on Friday, June 25th at 7:00 PM in the golden symphony hall of the Philharmonic. Tickets at the price of PLN 5-10 can be purchased via the website filharmonia.szczecin.pl and at the Philharmonic ticket offices.
