Film music I A. Komasa-Łazarkiewicz

In the FILM-HARMONY series, we have been visiting the world of fantastic film music and songs that have been inseparably connected with the silver screen for several years. The next chapter in the Polish history of this genre is created by Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz, who will conduct a concert of music to films already considered cult ones.


Recent years have been a period of transformation for me, discovering new sounds and means of expression, exploring the boundaries in film music. It is also the time of building a common musical language in a creative tandem with my wife, Mary Komasa. Her sensitivity and striving for the emotional simplicity of the message met with my musical searches, together creating something new, separate, original. I invite you to listen to excerpts from four film compositions made during this period.

Its beginning is marked by the music to Agnieszka Holland's film "Spoor". We invited the Berlin multi-instrumentalist Tomer Moked to co-perform it, giving it a sharp, wild and unpredictable character. The next step is the composition for the international 2018 production "The Affair", directed by Julius Sevcik. A sensual story about a romance that transcends time, space, and history inspired me to write lyrical, epic, and emotional music. Such a theme requires the composer to reveal himself and dare to tell stories with expressive colours, without unnecessary camouflage.

The next chapter of the concert is the composition for the film by Jasmila Zbanic entitled "Quo Vadis, Aida?". The Oscar-nominated film about the tragic events that took place in the Bosnian Srebrenica in 1995 forced me to reduce the means of expression to a maximum extent. Every note in this sparingly drawn composition matters. How can you touch tragedy without falling into false pathos?

We will close our concert with an intimate composition created for Agnieszka Holland's film "Charlatan". The story of the famous Czech healer and herbalist is, above all, an account of the human mystery, and the music created together with Mary covers more than it reveals.
